Timothy Delaney, Jr. Death Notice

May 17, 1918

From the New York (NY) Herald dated 5/17/1918: "DR. TIMOTHY DELANEY. -- Dr. Timothy Delaney, sixty-four years old, a veterinarian, died in his home, No. 250 West Seventy-eighth street, last night. Dr. Delaney was graduated from the University of Toronto and began his practice in Albany. He came to this city in 1890. His offices were at No. 251 Fifth avenue. He leaves his wife, one son and one daughter."

*Note - Dr. Tim was born in Cobleskill to Timothy and Alice Purcell Delaney.

In 1876/77, he was the operator of the Meet in Here and Excelsior saloons there.

In Feb. 1877 he was married to Julia Anna McCabe. In 1878 they moved to Albany, where their two children, Marie Josephine and Timothy Augustine Delaney were born in 1881 and 1882, respectively.

Several establishments were burned down between 1881-1883 in the Albany/Troy area, including properties owned by Tim Delaney Jr., his brother and brother-in-law. In Aug. 1883, Tim Delaney Jr. and his brother-in-law Peter McCarthy were arrested for their alleged involvement in a scheme to burn down structures to fraudulently collect the insurance money. His brother Edward Delaney was also sought, but changed his name and left with his family to reside. In April 1885, both Timothy Delaney Jr. and Peter McCarthy went on trial for arson. After testimony, both men were acquitted of the crime by a jury and released.

Tim Delaney Jr. went on to study at the University of Toronto where he received his veterinary credentials. In 1890 he moved to New York City to become the chief veterinary surgeon to the Metropolitan Railroad Company, Fifth Avenue Stage line and park service, having some 7,000 horses under his care.
