Sylvester G. Brewster obituary
The Jefferson Courier
April 13, 1911
Sylvester G. Brewster, aged 92, died Friday morning at his
home in West Oneonta. He was the last grandson of Judge William Brewster and was
born in the old homestead at So. Gilboa upon which he resided for many years.
After selling out at this place he bought a mill
property at West Oneonta in the early 70s and has since made his home there. The
only surviving members of his family are his son, D. S. Brewster of Schenectady,
and two married daughters, the eldest of whom kept house for him since the death
of his wife several years ago, and the other resided in the immediate vicinity.
His eldest son enlisted with Maj. C. Gibbs in the 3rd N. Y. Cavalry, and was
taken prisoner on the famous raid of that regiment to cut the Weldon railroad,
and died in Andersonville.
