Cobleskill -- Mrs. Mary Helen Veley, 87, of North Grand Street, formerly of Richmondville, died Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at the Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill. Mrs. Veley was born March 16, 1915, in the town of Gilboa and was the daughter of Arthur B. and Mary Grace (Hamm) Decker. She attended a one room school house in Gilboa and later graduated from the former Cobleskill Central School. During her married life, she assisted in the daily operations of the family dairy farm in Richmondville. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Richmondville. Mrs. Veley was predeceased by her husband, Morris Veley; and two brothers, George and Lester Decker. Survivors include two sons, James Veley of Richmondville and Alan A. Veley of Cobleskill; a brother, Frank Decker of Cobleskill; six grandchildren, Steven, Mark, Jeff, Jamie, April and Shawna Rae Veley, and six great–grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Jefferson in the spring. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, Main St., Richmondville, NY 12149. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mereness–Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor, Inc., 134 River St., Middleburgh.
