Fails to Rally After Shooting
Mother of Six Children at West Middleburgh Was Despondent
August 5, 1941
Mrs. Lela Lawyer of West Middleburgh, mother of six
children, who attempted suicide by shooting, two weeks ago, died Tuesday.
Widow of LeRoy Lawyer, who died a few months ago, the
40 year old woman had been despondent since his death. At 2 a.m. Monday,
July 21, she shot herself in the head with her husband's .22 calibre revolver
while seated in one of his favorite old chairs in the barn.
Funeral services were held today at Shaylor and White
funeral home in Middleburgh with Rev. R.C. Jourdry officiating.
Mrs. Lawyer was the mother of six, the two oldest
daughters Ardella and Lottie being married, and Esther 16, Roy Jr. 5, and
Elizabeth 3, and
Gerald, 2 months, live at home."
