John J. Ellis died 8 Mar 1875 and rests in Scotts Patent � Hulbert Cemetery, Broome, Schoharie County, New York.

Will of John J. Ellis

In the name of God, Amen I John J. Ellis of the town of Broome in the County of Schoharie and State of New York of the age of 71 years at this date being of sound mind & memory do make publish & declare this my last Will and Testament in the manner following That is to say. I give and bequeath to my wife Hannah Maria Ellis the use of all my real & personal Estate after the payment of my just debts & funeral expenses while she remains my widow, but if she should again marry, then in that event she is to have only the use of one third of the Estate during the natural life. After which it is my further will, wish & desire that which remains should be divided in the following manner. That is to say that my daughter Phebe Maria Haskins (wife of Silas Haskins), Also that Catharine Melissa Hulbert (wife of George H. Hulbert) shall each have four hundred dollars of & out of my Estate together with the household furniture is to be equally divided between the two daughters aforesaid if living, if not, to their heirs. It is my further will wish & desire that my wife shall make such disposal of her wearing apparel & fixtures as she shall to her seem proper. My further wish & will is that the residue of my Estate be divided in the following manner between my four daughters by name to wit � Phebe Mariah Haskins, Catharine Melissa Hulbert, Rachel Seyestra David, Diana E. Nickerson if they shall be living at the time, if not, to their heirs, that is to say, that each shall have equal share in what remains after complying with the above request and furnishing myself and wife with suitable tombstones. And it is my further will & desire that my Executor settle <riss ?> my Estate with as little Expense as possible as my children are all of age it can be settled by compromise with out much costs, and lastly I do appoint John W. Couchman of the town of Rensselaerville County of Albany State of New York as Executor of my this my last Will & Testament hereby revoking all wills made heretofore made by me.
In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 10th day of Dec. 1874

The above will written on this one sheet of paper at the date thereof was signed, sealed, published & declared by the said John J. Ellis as & for his last will l& testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence & in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witness thereto.
