Will of Jacob A. Lape

I, Jacob A. Lape of the Town of Summit, County of Schoharie and State of New York mindful of the uncertainties of human life do make, publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner following

First After the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses, I give devise and bequeath to Julia Ann Van Benthuysen, my daughter, One Thousand Dollars, five hundred of which is to be paid to her on or before the first of December next, and five hundred dollars within one year after my decease.

Second I give and bequeath to my daughter Lanie Catherine Herrington One Thousand Dollars, to be paid to her as follows, that is to say five hundred dollars on the first day of December next, and the remaining five hundred dollars two years after my death.

Third I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Post One thousand dollars, five hundred of which to be paid to her on or before the first day of December next and the remaining five hundred dollars three years after my death.

Fourth I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Prudence Wharton One thousand dollars, five hundred of which to be paid to her on or before the first day of December next, and five hundred dollars four years after my decease.

Fifth I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Davis One thousand dollars of which sum five hundred to be paid on or before the first day of October next and the remaining five hundred dollars five years from the first day of December 1880.

Sixth I give devise and bequeath to my son Thomas Lape all my real and personal estate that remains after the payments of the above legacies to my five daughters above named excepting my household furniture which household furniture I give and bequeath to my said daughters Julia Ann Van Benthuysen, Lanie Catherine Herrington, Mary Post, Prudence Wharton, and Jane Davis each to share and share alike in said furniture. I hereby charge my executors thereinafter appointed to surrender the notes that I now hold against the legatees or their husbands for the payment of money to them or each of them in payment of their or each of their legacies or so much thereof as the amount of their or each of their notes will pay and they are to receive their or each of their notes I hold against them and each of them in payment or part payment of the amounts above bequeathed to them.

Seventh I hereby nominate my son Thomas Lape and William Van Benthuysen to be the executors of this last Will and Testament thereby revoking all other wills by me made.

In Witnesseth whereof I have set my hand and seal this 23rd day of September, 1880.
