John Vrooman, Historical Author

     Dr. John J. Vrooman of Schenectady died Jan. 28 at Arcadia where he was spending the winter with Mrs. Vrooman. he was widely known as an author of historical books. Mr. Vrooman was superintendent of historical sites for the state until his retirement in 1951.
     Included in his books were "The Promised Land" concerning the Palatines who settled in the Schoharie valley, and a historical novel, "Clarissa Putnam of Tribes Hill" which became a best seller.
     Mr. Vrooman frequently visited the Old Stone Fort in Schoharie and had a vast interest in county history.
