     The village of Middleburgh sustained a great loss in the death of Joshua F. Kelsey on Wednesday morning, Sept. 19, Mr. Kelsey was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
     He sustained a severe shock on June 3rd and has been confined to his bed since that time. He suffered several minor shocks and has been a great sufferer.
     He was 67 years of age and was born in Preston Hollow, the son of Jonas Kelsey.
     When a young man he attended school at Middleburgh and later became an employee of Dodge and France. On retirement of that firm he became a member of the firm of Kelsey, Vroman and White, occupying the new Dodge Store. About twenty years ago the firm dissolved and he continued in business for himself, receiving the patronage of the public whose confidence he always enjoyed. Failing health compelled his retirement about two years ago.
     He was a member of the Middleburgh M. E. church, a faithful attendant on its services, and a member of the official board.
     Surviving are his wife, formerly Miss Jennie Sheldon; a daughter, Mrs. Ross Guernsey and three brothers, Wm. G. Kelsey of Cobleskill, Ira Kelsey of Middleburgh and Louis who lives in Minnesota.
     The funeral was held on Sunday at 3 o’clock p. m. from the M. E. church, his pastor, Rev. J. M. Cass officiating. Interment in the Middleburgh cemetery.

Worthy Citizen Take Up
September 1924

     This morning, the village was shocked as the news flashed over the wires and through the street that our beloved townsman, John T. Kelsey had passed to that heavenly home beyond the clouds, to take up his labors for his Master. Words cannot express the love and feeling the citizens of the town held for this worthy man.
     Mr. Kelsey was born sixty-seven years ago in the village of Preston Hollow, just across the county line. When a boy he came to this village and started to work for Dodge & France and later became a partner with Vroman & White until about twenty years ago he entered business for himself in the block now occupied by the A & P store and was successful.
     He was always pleasant to meet and an accommodating business man.
     About two years ago he retired from business as health failed him after forty-six years of successful labor.
     Mr. Kelsey was a very active worker in the M. E. Church as long as health permitted and was always found at all its services. He was a member of the official board for years. He united with the church when Mrs. Balloo, evangelist, held meetings here.
     Mr. Kelsey’s labors are now ended here on earth and he has gone to continue his good work in the heavenly kingdom on high.
