Services Held For Jess Birch

Funeral services
for Jess Birch of Sharon Springs were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Lappeus
funeral home in that village. The Rev. George Swart officiated with burial in
Slate Hill cemetery.
Mr. Birch died last Thursday night at the Community
hospital, Cobleskill, where he was taken the day previous after shooting himself
with a 16 gauge shotgun at his home. State police said the gun blast ripped
through the left side of his face. He was discovered by a neighbor and rushed to
the hospital by Lappeus ambulance.
Mr. Birch was born May 27, 1890 at Central Bridge, the
son of William and Ida Bouck Birch. he was a retired farmer and was a veteran of
World War I. Bearers at the services were members of the American Legion.
Only survivors are two nephews and a half brother.
