     Hyndsville -- Hamilton Acheson, 94, of Lawyersville Road, died Thursday, January 30, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill. Mr. Acheson was born on September 15, 1908 in Hancock, NY, the son of John and Frances (Ihler) Acheson. He retired in 1972 from the Cobleskill School District, where he was a teacher of sciences since 1931. Mr. Acheson earned his master's of arts degree from the Albany University, as well as his bachelor's of arts degree in 1931. In 1965, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Teacher's Award given by the New York State Department of Education. Mr. Acheson was a United States Veteran, with an honorable discharge as a lieutenant commander. He served from 1942 to 1947 in active duty, which included the Normandy Beach invasion. Mr. Acheson was released from the reserves in 1961. He was a life member of the American Legion Fred L. Stilson Post #57 of Cobleskill. Mr. Acheson was a former captain of the Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Department, was a justice of the peace for the town of Seward, served on the Schoharie County Planning Board, and was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons of Cobleskill. He was also an active member of the Schoharie County Republican Party, and the oldest member of the Cobleskill Exchange Club, where at one time, he served as president. Mr. Acheson married Margaret Neeson of May 6, 1947, and she died on July 18, 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Aakvik of Asenfjord, Norway; a son, Robert Acheson of Rensselaer; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 3, at the Mereness–Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Officiating will be the Rev. Bert Mayne of the Carlisle Presbyterian Church. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 2, at the funeral home. Spring internment will be in the Zion Rural Cemetery, Seward. Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 209 MacArthur Ave., Cobleskill, NY 12043.
