ONEONTA — Mrs. Gladys Florence Banner, 70, of Oneonta, died Wednesday morning, March 31, 1999, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

She was born Aug. 19, 1928, the daughter of Vernor and Florence (Brainard) Cornell.

She married E. Ferris Banner on Sept. 28, 1946, in Oneonta.

She was a waitress and hostess at Brook's House of Barbecue and was the housekeeping supervisor at the Holiday Inn.

Gladys enjoyed working in her flower gardens and cross-stitching, but most of all she cherished her time spent with her granddaughters and her dog, Boomer.

Gladys is survived by her husband of 52 years, E. Ferris Banner of Milford Center; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Fred Maloof; and a son, Duane Banner, and his fiancee, Marge Crawford, of Milford Center; four granddaughters, Star Banner of Oneonta, Wendy Chase, Tracy Chase and her fiance, David Ross, and Deanna Maloof of Milford Center; a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and June Cornell of Zephryhills, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Fanchion Cornell of North Blenheim, and Marjorie Van Buren and Shirely Banner of Oneonta; two stepbrothers, Ray and Eugene Orchard of New Jersey; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Vernor and Florence Cornell; a stepmother, Bertha Orchard Cornell; a brother, Lyndon Cornell; sister-in-law, Betty Monser; and three brothers-in-law, Carl Banner, Byron Van Buren and Jerry Monser.

Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May, 7, 1999, at the Milford Cemetery, Milford, with the Rev. Douglas Burleigh, Protestant chaplain of Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 3, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
