Death of Mrs. Emily Holcomb of Lagrange

The Elyria Republican (Elyria, OH) - February 14, 1901

     Emily Crane was born in Cobleskill, Schoharie county, New York, July 3, 1820, and died at LaGrange Jan. 29, 1901, aged 80 years, 6 months, and 26 days.
     She was the oldest of a family of 10 children and came to LaGrange with her parents in April, 1835. On Dec. 11, 1838 she was united in marriage to Noah Holcomb of LaGrange, and they worked early and late to build up a home on the farm now owned by Eb. Sprague. Several years later they moved across the river on the farm where their youngest son now lives. Eight children blessed this union, six of whom survive their parents. Owing to sickness only two were able to attend the funeral.
     She was a kind and loving mother, not only to her own children but also to her granddaughter, Mrs. Grace Rawson who lived with her about 10 years, and whose husband and children were very dear to her in her declining years.
     Shortly after her husband’s death, March 24, 1877, Mrs. Holcomb moved to town where she lived about 16 years. For many years she was a member of the Methodist church, but about 14 years ago she united with Adventist church of which she was a member at the time of her death, which occurred at the farm that had been her home for the past few years.
     She has been a great sufferer for the past six years, but through all has been cheerful and enjoyed visiting with her friends.
