Mrs. Turner Departs For Land Beyond
December 1925

     Mrs. Evelyn Turner, widow of Austin Turner, and who for 89 years had sojourned on earth, experiencing its joys and sorrows, its friendships and blessings, on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 19th, took her departure for the land beyond.
     The most of her life was passed in the full enjoyment of health, but her last days were mixed with the frailties of old age and she became the constant cure of others. At the time of her death she was being cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Decker and most faithfully did they perform their task. All that tender hearts and careful hands could do to make her last days comfortable was cheerfully done by them.
     Mrs. Turner was the only daughter of Henry and Cornelia Bell and was born in the town of Berne in May 1836. September the 16th, 1857, she became the wife of Austin Turner and they lived together until April 4, 1913, covering a period of over 56 years. Their first home was on a farm in the town of Broome. Later, they bought the Benjamin Turner farm living on it 15 years. Some forty years ago or more they moved to this place. Here she soon made new friends and became identified with the social and religious activities of the place. By faith she became a member of the Baptist church, but there being no church of that faith in our midst she found opportunities for work in the Methodist church here, always retaining her membership with the Baptist church of Hawverville.
     Mrs. Turner was a strong advocate of total abstinence and she became an active member of the W. C. T. U. The Union never had a more faithful or active member. As long as health permitted she attended the meeting and was ready to contribute of her means to help the cause along.
     Mrs. Turner was a woman whose memory will long be cherished. She made friends and retained them. Two children came into the early married life of Mr. and Mrs. Turner. The first a girl, did not reach the age of two. The second, a son, lived to the age of twelve. Mrs. Turner leaves no near relatives. A brother, Wm. Henry Bell, died in the Civil war. Mrs, Turner was buried from her late residence Tuesday morning, the W. C. T. U .attending in a body. Services conducted by Rev. A. J. Sunderland, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment in the Middleburgh cemetery.
