GILBOA—Deforest J. (“Dutch”) Brainard, 79, of Wyckoff Road, Gilboa, died Tuesday, April 10, at Community Hospital, Stamford.

He was born Feb. 6, 1905, at Manorkill, the son of Leonard and Mary (Scoville) Brainard. He married Amelia Bevins Aug. 22, 1927, in Grand Gorge.

Mr. Brainard was a lifelong resident of Gilboa. He was a dairy farmer, employed for many years at Wyckoff Bros. Farms, Gilboa. He was secretary-treasurer and caretaker of the Gilboa Rural Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Marguerite Tuthill of Gilboa and Mrs. Andrew (Rose) Riordan of North Blenheim; one son, Floyd Brainard of Gilboa; four grandsons; one sister, Mrs. Francis (Ethel) Vermilyea of Oneonta; five brothers, Ralph Brainard of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Harold Brainard of Prattsville, Willie Brainard of Gilboa, Ivan Brainard of Altamont and Archie Brainard of Warnerville.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, with the Rev. William St. John, pastor of the Stamford United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Gilboa Rural Cemetery, Gilboa.

Friends may call at their convenience Friday. The family will be in attendance after 7 p.m. Friday.
