Grim Reaper Cuts Off Wedding Anniversary
Mrs. Gideon Wilber Loses Fight With Death by a Single Day to Observe 62 Years of Marriage

     For several months Mrs. Gideon Wilber of 12 Wagner avenue had fought an illness that she was afraid would keep her and her husband from observing their 62nd wedding anniversary.
     Last week, with Mrs. Wilber well on the road to recovery although she was still confined to her bed, her family went joyously ahead with plans for that celebration.
     The anniversary will be ready but there will be no celebration. Mrs. Wilber died suddenly yesterday morning.
     Mr. Wilber, who is 82, was grief stricken last night at the loss of his wife, from whom he had never been separated more than a few days during their entire married life. Mrs. Wilber was 77.
     Funeral services are to be conducted tomorrow afternoon at - o'clock at the Griswold funeral home, 1867 State street, Woodlawn, and burial will be in Old Stone Fork cemetery, Schoharie. Rev. Robert W. Chestnut, pastor of Duanesburg Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
     During recent years Mr. and Mrs. Wilber have been spending the winter with their two daughters in Schenectady. The summers they spent with their children in Dunnesburg.
     Mrs. Wilber was the former Caroline Vrooman. She was born August 12, 1857. Her husband was born June 5, 1852, at Schoharie. They were married January 7, 1873 by the late Rev. Reinhart of Altamont at a ceremony in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Vrooman.
     The couple resided on the farm owned by Mr. Wilber's father near Schoharie. There they lived for the next 30 years. In 1905 Mr. Wilber retired and a son, Stephen A. Wilber, took over the farm's operation and subsequently purchased it from his father.
     Mr. Wilber's hobby is fox hunting and he has an apparently neverending supply of stories of 70 consecutive hunting seasons. He is in excellent health and has good eyesight, using glasses only for reading.
     Five children, two sons and three daughters, were born to the couple. They are Roscoe C. Wilber of Duanesburg, Stephen A. Wilber of Schoharie, Mrs. Fred M. Sheldon of Esperance, and Mrs. William L. Rediker and Mrs. George E. Barton of Schenectady. There are 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
