Mr. Laymon is well known in newspaperdom as a strong editorial writer in State, County, and City affairs, to the many patrons of his paper as a writer of current and local happenings, which he presented to them in a most interesting manner. He is known to his neighbors as a good citizen utilizing his power in their best interest. He is a member of Liberty Lodge Number 505, Free and Accepted Mason; Arnold Chapter Number 254, Royal Arch Masons (both of Port Allegany); Olean Commandery, No. 24, Knights of Templar; Zem Zem Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine; Coudersport Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. Mr. Laymon was twice married, his first wife being Mattie Peck, whom he married October 17, 1882, and who died March 7, 1885(?), leaving one daughter Nina. In 1886 he married Ada E. Lamphere, daughter of John Lamphere of Conesville, New York. He is survived by his wife and four children: Mrs. Nina Wood of Streator, Illinois, Mrs. Beulah Greene of Newpaltz, New York, Randall now with the Aviation Corp. in San Antonio, Texas, and Edna at home; also one brother William of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock Rev. W.A. Stackhouse officiating.
