NORWICH — Carl K. Cornell, 93, of Norwich, formerly of Oneonta, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at the Valley View Nursing Home, Norwich.

He was born on Oct. 29, 1907, in South Gilboa, the son of the late Vernor L. and Malinda Fredenburg Cornell. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Agnes T. Coleman Cornell, who passed away on Jan. 5, 1997.

He is survived by his children, Carolyn (Cornell) and her husband, Richard Lee, of Rome, Linda (Cornell) and her husband, Joseph Stewart, of Norwich and Dennis Cornell and his wife, Nancy, of Ellisville, Mo.; his grandchildren, Lisa Stewart of Binghamton, Timothy and Michelle Stewart of Saranac Lake, Jamie Lee of Rome, Jason Lee of Syracuse, Amanda Cornell of Rochester, Minn., Alissa (Cornell) Schumacher and her husband, Jeffrey, of Winona, Minn., and Adam Cornell of Menemonie, Wis.; and his great-grandchildren, Bryan and Carl Joseph (C.J.) Stewart of Saranac Lake.

On June 20, 1937, Mr. Cornell married Agnes T. Coleman in Otego and was an Oneonta resident for more than 70 years until moving to the Norwich area in 1995.

For more than 40 years, he worked for the Tracy Baking Company of Norwich, which became Durkee Baking Co. and then Victory Markets Inc., until his retirement in 1972.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid gardener well known and admired for his gardening skills.

He was an active member of the Main Street Baptist Church of Oneonta for more than 50 years, serving as a trustee, an usher and vice president of the Couples Club of the church for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at the Main Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Bonebrake, pastor of the Main Street Baptist Church, and the Rev. Kenneth Simpson, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
