Hone, submitted by Bill Decker May 13, 2002
This is kind of strange.....but we just uncovered a tombstone in our backyard! We traced it to the Leesville Cemetery but am wondering how it got here? The name on it is John William Hone. Died Dec.17, 1856. Do you know if he's buried there? Any information would be appreciated!
In doing research for family members at the Leesville cemetery, I have recorded information on several families that might be of interest to those doing research and who are unable to visit the cemetery itself. The names and dates are as accurate as I could get them, it being difficult because of the age and condition of some of the stones to be positive of some letters and numbers. If there was a doubt, there will be a question mark.

Donato Bitetto, born 1891, died August 1940 (my father's uncle) Maria (Mary) Scopelliti, born 11/25/1894, died 3/5/1964, his wife (Donato's wife, my paternal grandmother's sister) Dimitri (Frank) Scopelliti, birthdate on the stone--handmade death date also, her second husband. If you confirm submissions, let me know what the dates are, please, for my file. These three stones are grouped together, almost directly behind the maintenance shed, on the first row nearest the road. There's a Scopelliti Road in Sharon Springs, I think it's still a dirt road. Maria and Donato owned the farm there, and the road was named after her second husband, I believe. My father spent a lot of his childhood working on the farm.
