Charles Bailey Fethers died this morning at 9:30 o'clock at his home, No. 165 Spring Street of a complication of diseases, aged 76 years. Mr. Fethers has been in poor health for several years past and although he was able to get about from time to time, he never fully recovered. Mr. Fethers was born in Sharon Springs, June 21, 1833, the son of Daniel and Laura Fethers. He was educated at the Albany Normal School from which institution he was graduated with honor. He went west and taught school for a time in Michigan and Illinois. He later went to California but came to Amsterdam 14 years ago and this city has since been his home. For a number of years he conducted the Cherry Valley Hotel at Cherry Valley. He was a teacher at the Reynold Business school for about seven years having charge of the bookkeeping department and other branches connected with the business education of the pupils. He was an excellent instructor and highly regarded by the pupils who attended the school while he was there. He continued to teach until after he was three score and ten. He was obliged to sever his connection as a member of the faculty owing to ill health. Mr. Fethers was twice married. His first wife was Eliza Horning of Sharon Springs to whom he was united in marriage January 9, 1863. She died March 2, 1889. His second wife was Anna Canary, widow of T. N. Kibbe of Akin. Three children were born by his first wife, all of whom survive. They were Myron, who resides in the west, Harry D. of Philadelphia and Mrs. Wishart of Michigan, wife of the Rev. Alfred Wishart who is now in Europe. In addition to his wife and three children, Mr. Fethers has two brothers, Ogden H. of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Larkin Fethers of Sharon Springs and one sister Mrs. Maggie Seeley of Sharon. Mr. Fethers was a member of Sharon Springs Lodge of Masons, No. 624. During his residence here, Mr. Fethers proved an upright citizen and won the esteem of a large circle of friends who will regret to learn of his death. The funeral will be held at the house Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Interment will be at Sharon.

(From a later article) The funeral of Charles B. Fethers was held at his home and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends. The Rev. W. G. Morris of the First M.E. Church officiated. The remains were taken to Sharon Springs on the 2:02 train for interment. Among those in attendance from out of town were the following: Larkin Fethers and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Fethers, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. VanSchaick, Sharon Springs and Seeley Canary, Florida, New York.
