Prominent Citizen Passes Away
Sick Only About 48 Hours

     Police Justice Alexander Elmslie, counseler at law, passed away at his home in this village, on Railroad Ave., Thursday forenoon, Dec. 18th., after an illness of less than three days, of pneumonia.
     On Monday, Mr. Elmslie had a case before him in police court and upon that same day made two professional trips to Fultonham. That night he was taken ill and a doctor called. He took his bed and on Thursday, the end came. The announcement of his death was a great shock to the community. He was one of our prominent citizens, and although 74 years of age was active in his profession and attentive to business.
     Some ten years ago Mr. Elmslie, coming here from Ohio, purchased the John M. Russell farm on Cotton Hill. He lived there and superintended the work of the farm a couple of years and then came to this village and boarded in the family of John D. Wheeler.
     By profession being a lawyer he opened up an office and began the practice of law, when L. C. Wells moved away Mr. Elmslie was appointed police justice in his place, to fill the vacancy and has continued in the position thereafter.
     Mr. Elmslie was a Scotchman and was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, 74 years ago. When a young boy his parents came to this country. In middle life his home was in Cleveland, Ohio. He there practiced law and at one time was engaged in the newspaper business. Some twelve years ago his first wife passed away. About six years ago he married the widow of George Graham. A son Harry Elmslie of Washington, D. C. also survives him.
     He was an official member of the Methodist church and faithful in all of its activities. He was an Odd Fellow and that body assisted in the funeral services, which were held in the Methodist church, Monday forenoon. His remains were shipped on the Monday evening train to Cleveland, Ohio, where they will be placed by the side of his first wife. The remains were accompanied by his son.
