BABCOCK, Dorothy GIEGENGACK. - Babcock, Dorothy, of Montpelier; died suddenly in her own home on January 7 [2003]. She was born at home on June 16, 1918 in East Schodack, [Rensselaer Co.] New York, to Julia and Quirin GIEGENGACK. She attended local schools and in 1938 graduated from the state teachers' college in Oneonta, NY. She married Richard BABCOCK on July 1, 1939 at her parents' home in East Schodack. In 1946, the family moved to 5 Terrace Street in Montpelier [Washington Co., VT]. When the children grew older, Dot began to work in the accounting department at the National Life, initially part-time and later full-time. In 1954, they built and moved into another home in Montpelier. She spent her entire professional career at the National Life, retiring about 1980. Dot and Dick traveled extensively until his death in 1991. Dot is survived by three children: Barbara Thoren, Christine Hall, and Laurence Babcock. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one grandchild, Jonathan Hall. Dot was a member of the Green Mountain Club, the Albany Chapter of the Adirondacks 46ers, and the Capital Squares. She volunteered for several years at the Central Vermont Regional Library. BAILEY, Lonnie D. II - DAVAO CITY, Philippines - Lonnie D. BAILEY II, 43, formerly a resident of Main St. in Schaghticoke and of Lansingburgh [Rensselaer County, NY], died suddenly on June 22, 2009 at the Davao City Medical Center. Born in Troy [Rensselaer County, NY], he is a son of Carol Ann MURPHY BAILEY JONES of Troy and the late Lonnie D. BAILEY, who passed away in February 2009, and a stepson of the late Peter JONES. He was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and was a U. S. Army veteran. Upon visiting the Philippines three years ago to do missionary work, Lonnie decided to make it his home. Lonnie made a career of his service to our country and retired as staff sergeant from the Division of Military and Naval Affairs in Latham. Husband of Hermisa "Gaga" BAILEY of Davao City; father of Jessica L. BAILEY-DOMEY, Amanda BAILEY and Kaitlyn BAILEY, all of Lansingburgh; brother of Annette FUSCO of Troy, Kimberly GAGLE (Tod) of Galway, Tara SHELDON (Bill) of Schenectady, and Renee KINSEY (Don) of Latham; and grandfather of Hannah DOMEY, Hailey Paige DOMEY and Jack COLLINS Jr. Lonnie is also survived by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service, celebrating Lonnie's life, will begin at 3:00 p. m. on Sunday in the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. (corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue) in Lansingburgh, where Doug Nelson, associate pastor of Grace Fellowship in Latham, will officiate. BAKER, George E., Jr. - HOOSICK FALLS - George Edward Baker Jr., 60, of Route 22, died Sunday at his residence. Born and raised in North Pownal, Vt., he was the son of the late George E. and Irene DeCoigne Baker Sr. Prior to moving to Hoosick Falls 17 years ago, he resided in North Adams, Mass., for several years and in Jaffery, N.H. Mr. Baker was a heavy-equipment operator for the Town of Jaffery Highway Department. Prior to that he was in the roofing business. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include two sons, William Baker of Florida and Alan Baker of Williamstown, Mass.; two daughters, Terri Keating of Bennington, Vt., and Amy Baker of New Hampshire; and a sister, Cecilia Bressette of North Adams. BANKER, Eleanor F. GROGAN - Eleanor F. Banker, 75 - PITTSTOWN - Eleanor F. [GROGAN] BANKER, 75, of County Route 111, died Friday [7 October 1994] at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. She was born [20 February 1919] in Hoosick Falls and was educated in the Pittstown School District. Mrs. Banker was employed at Thompson's Mill in Valley Falls and was a homemaker. She had catered many area weddings and parties for friends and neighbors and had received an award for her 25 years of service to the town of Pittstown as a tax collector. She was a lifetime member of the Pittstown United Methodist Church and was the current vice-president and a 45-year charter member of the Pittstown Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies' Auxiliary. She was also a member of the former Merry Sisters Group of Pittstown and was the current secretary of the Norton Cemetery Association, a post she had held since 1973. Mrs. Banker also was a member of Hilltop Bowl's Sunday Niters. Survivors include two sons, Dennis R. BANKER and Hal L. BANKER, both of Pittstown; four daughters, Kay L. WAGNER, Linda L. ROSE, Jill E. ACERRA and Becky B. VAN WIE, all of Pittstown; a sister, Madeline BURGAN of Johnsonville; and 12 grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a. m. BARBER, Betty (Mrs. Telford ELDERS) - Hoosick Falls � Betty BARBER ELDERS, age 86, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia, [Toombs County] GA. She was born April 17, 1923, in Hoosick Falls, [Rensselaer County] NY, to Harold and Kathryn BARBER. Betty attended Troy Business College in Troy, NY, and Georgia Teachers' College in Statesboro, GA. In February of 1944, Betty enlisted in the Navy WAVES and served in the 6th Naval District Intelligence Office at both NAS, Jacksonville, FL, and Ft. Sumter, Charleston, SC. After the war ended, she settled in Reidsville, GA, and worked many years for Nelson Sales Company. Betty then transferred to Ft. Stewart, where she retired in 1979 from the Comptroller's Office. In 1969 she married Telford ELDERS. After the Elders both retired, they purchased a Winnebago Motor Home and joined the Winnebago International Travelers' Club as Charter members. From then on, their life was one of travel � all over North America � all of the United States, the Canadian provinces and many Mexican states were visited. She was a Past Co-President of Georgia Winnie Rebels and the Bago Tribe. She organized the WIT Singer's Club in Forest City, IA. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, joining in 1944; Past Matron of the Rising Star Chapter 384 (no longer in existence); and a present emeritus member of Martha Washington #300 of Claxton, GA. In 1950, she joined the Reidsville United Methodist Church and its Chancel Choir. She was also a member of the Tommy Thomson Sunday school class and Wesleyan Service Guild. She was a Charter member of Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, a Pink Lady Volunteer at the Tattnall Community Hospital and a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer. She was also a member of NARFE, GSC Botanical Garden Society, Red Hat Society, and Tattnall County Historic Preservation Inc., and was a Past President of the Reidsville Garden Club and a member of Team Reidsville. She is preceded in death by her husband, Telford, and a son, Robert "Hal" Odum. She is survived by a daughter, D. Fleta WOOD; a son, T. Edwin ELDERS; grandchildren, Brittany JUAREZ, Sophia SCHMIDT, Solita HAYES, Telford WOOD, Thomas ELDERS and Teresa ELDERS-MCCUE; great-grandchildren, Haley, Kayla, Carlos, Stephen, Ashley, Regan, David, Layla, Esperanza, Rachel, Andrew, Katie and Alex; and one special niece, Dale SCOTT. Memorial services will be conducted at 4 pm, Saturday, April 10, from the Reidsville United Methodist Church. BARBER, Pansy. Pansy Barber - Hoosick Falls - Pansy May MONROE HARRINGTON BARBER, 91, formerly of River Street, died on Thursday at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. Born in Peru, VT on February 24, 1913, she was a daughter of the late James Arthur MONROE and Delia TIFFT MONROE. She was educated in the Cobblestone School in Bennington, VT. Pansy moved to Hoosick Falls in 1931 and was employed by Millberg Undergarment Co. and Nancy Shoe Co., both in Hoosick Falls; by Thompson Mill in Bennington; by Reese Tool Co. of Cambridge; and by Barclay Home Products in Hoosick Falls until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the North Hoosick Methodist Church and its Women's Society. She was also a member of both the Cambridge and Hoosick Falls Seniors. Survivors include her children William (Hazel) HARRINGTON of Bennington [VT]; John (Janice) HARRINGTON of Stillwater [Saratoga County, NY]; Dawn (James) CLARK of Hoosick Falls; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a nephew, John WILLIAMS of Granville. BARBER, Ralph Lawton - Hoosick Falls man is killed in tractor mishap - August 18, 1899-June 30, 1955 - Hoosick Falls - Ralph L. BARBER, 55, of RD 2, Hoosick Falls, was killed instantly Thursday afternoon when he was thrown from a tractor he was driving and a rear wheel ran over his body. Coroner Anthony E. Matera gave a decision of accidental death. The man was pronounced dead by Dr. Robert Maderer of Hoosick Falls, who said death was due to a crushed chest. The mishap occurred on the East Hoosick Road near Barber's farm, and the body of Barber was discovered lying in the road by two youngsters who were driving cattle to a nearby farm. Trooper N. G. Scott of the Cambridge outpost, State Police investigated the accident. He said the tractor was making a turn and the rear wheels spun, apparently causing Barber to lose control and fall. Mr Barber had lost his left hand about seven years ago when it was caught in a corn drill. The hand was amputated due to the injuries of that mishap. The body was moved to Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington. Vermont. Ralph Lawton Barber was born Aug. 18, 1899 in Shaftsbury, son of Albert BARBER and Florence LAWTON. He attended schools in Shaftsbury and North Bennington. He is survived by his father; one sister, Mrs. James PETERS of West Shaftsbury; and a nephew, Donald PETERS, also of West Shaftsbury. BARRINGER, Martin. - DEATH OF MARTIN BARRINGER AT ROCHESTER - Sudden death. - At 11 o'clock last evening Mr. Mooney the proprietor of the Waverly House was informed that a gentleman was ill in one of the rooms on the third floor. He immediately proceeded there and found the man in the last agonies of death. Mr. Mooney raised him up and had medical aid called in but without avail for he died in his arms a few minutes afterwards. His name was Martin Barringer and he belonged in Troy. He had been to Canada to collect some mortgages and was on his return home but stopped here to get his money changed and intended to take the morning train to Troy. He had between eight and nine hundred dollars with him which Coroner Pullin deposited in the Union Bank. No more than a half hour previous to Mr. Mooney's being summoned to his room he [Mr Barringer] was laughing and talking to that gentleman and appeared to be in full enjoyment of health. It would seem from those that first heard him that he was taken with a fit of coughing and when Mr. Mooney first reached him something appeared to be in his throat. A post mortem examination was made by Dr. Montgomery and the Coroner's jury rendered a verdict of death by enlargement of the heart. Before that, Mrs. Beaudoin worked for 30 years as a cashier in several retail stores in Troy. She was the widow of Raymond Louis Beaudoin. Survivors include a son, Laurence R. Beaudoin of Troy; a brother, Harold E. Rowe of Wynantskill; a sister, Alice Dabbs of Trumbull, Conn.; and a granddaughter. A service is set for 11 a. m. Mrs. Bevis was a homemaker and a communicant of St. John's Church in Schaghticoke. She was a member of the Bemis Heights Grange #1525 and of the State & National Grange Associations. She was the widow of Leon BEVIS, who died in 1963. Survivors include one son, Robert L. BEVIS of Pittstown, NY; two daughters, Mrs. Sandra ROSKO of Schaghticoke, NY and Miss Lucille BEVIS of Elmira, NY; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. He leaves his wife of 18 years, Irene M. (LAJOIE) BEVIS; a son, James L. BEVIS; a daughter, Maureen DONEGAN, both of Jaffrey, NH; three stepsons; three stepdaughters; a sister, Elaine WITORSKI of Schaghticoke, NY; a stepbrother, Robert BEVIS of Pittstown, NY; two stepsisters, Lucille BEVIS and Sandra ROSKO, both of Schaghticoke; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. He was born in Ware, son of Leon J. BEVIS and Hazel M. COOLEY, and later lived in Fitchburg. He lived here [Gardner, MA] many years. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1942. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving overseas. Mr. Bevis was a rural postal carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for 10 years and was still working until the time of his death. He was also a school-crossing guard for the City of Gardner. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and Douglas Hicks Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Westminster. Reba is survived by her three daughters, Tink (Iva Jane) TORDOFF (Roger) of East Greenbush, Lori (Sarah Jean) BEVIS (Floyd) of East Greenbush and Gayle MCDONALD (Al) of Schaghticoke; seven grandchildren, Timothy TORDOFF (Karen), Roger Keith TORDOFF, David TORDOFF, Lisa ROBINSON, Stephen CARKNARD (Amy), A. J. MCDONALD (Christina), and Michael MCDONALD; nine great-grandchildren; her brother, Clifford VIALL (Pearl); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James F. BEVIS, and her daughter Betty WAYNE CARKNARD. Reba was a devoted member of the Presbyterian United Church of Schaghticoke, where she sang, taught and rejoiced in God's blessings. BICKFORD, Prosper C. - HOOSICK FARMER KILLED - Prosper C. Bickford Thrown from a Thrashing Machine Horse Power - Prosper C. BICKFORD, a farmer, living about two miles east of Hoosick Falls [village in the town of Hoosick, Rensselaer County, NY], was thrown from a thrashing machine horse power about 7:30 o'clock this morning and died from his injuries in about an hour. Mr. Bickford, in company with his son-in-law, Charles BUSH, had started for J. S. Marshall's, who manages the Wood estate farm, to do some thrashing. The accident happened while they were coming down the steep hill in front of Jeremiah Murphy's place, Bush being ahead with the thrasher, and Mr. Bickford with the heavy horse power. The brake on the treadway of the latter was not properly set, and it started up, its speed increasing, until at the foot of the hill, Mr. Bickford was thrown out in front of the horses, and his keeping hold of the lines, reined the frightened animals toward the embankment, at the side of the road, over which they plunged with the horse power, the wheels of the latter passing over Mr. Bickford as he lay in the road. Mr. Murphy and his son saw the accident and hurried to the assistance of the injured man, and carried him into the house. Mr. Bush immediately drove to Hoosick Falls for Dr. J. C. Shaw, but when the latter arrived, Mr. Bickford was dying, as the result of internal injuries. Mr. Bickford was 70 years of age, and leaves a wife, three daughters, and five sons. BLAKELY, Gale A. (Mrs. Robert E. ROSE) - JOHNSONVILLE - Gale A. (BLAKELY) ROSE, 66, a lifelong resident of the Johnsonville area, died suddenly Thursday, July 9, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy [Rensselaer County, NY] after being stricken at her Clum Road residence. Born at her parents' Schaghticoke [Rensselaer County, NY] home December 2, 1942, Gale was a daughter of the late William J. BLAKELY Jr. and Etta Mae SALISBURY and the beloved wife and best friend for over 47 years of Robert E. ROSE Sr. of Johnsonville, who survives. Gale and Bob were married May 12, 1962. Gale attended Hoosic Valley High School. A wonderful homemaker for many years and a "stay-at-home mom," Gale enjoyed raising her children and assisting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took pride in running her home "the old-fashioned way" by being an excellent cook and baker, tending her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, and managing the affairs of her home. For over 20 years, she assisted her husband in the care and operation of the Millertown Cemetery. In her quiet time, she crocheted many beautiful afghans and throws and collected dolls. She was a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church in Johnsonville, taught Sunday school and assisted as custodian for many years. She was a member of the Hoosick Grange and the former Johnsonville Grange. In addition to her husband, Gale is survived by four children and their spouses, Robert E. ROSE Jr. and Donna of Johnsonville, Brian A. ROSE and Toni of Lynchburg, VA, Marcia A. PIAZZA and Dan of Colonie, and Pamela M. SKAARUP and John of Raymertown; a brother, William J. BLAKELY III of Johnsonville; a sister and brother-in-law, Marie DERBY and Russ of Valley Falls; eight cherished grandchildren, Christopher J. BOLTON, Frank P. - Frank P. Bolton - KATTSKILL BAY - Frank P. BOLTON, 87, of Oakley Way, died September 15, 2008, in Phoenix, AZ. Born [18 July 1921] in Schaghticoke, [Rensselaer County] NY, he was a son of Pierce BOLTON and Loretta LORD. Mr. Bolton graduated from Mechanicville High School in 1939 and attended Albany Business College, studying accounting. He was employed by West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. of Mechanicville, retiring in 1986 after 45 years with the company. He married Mary "Mernie" DALTON on June 12, 1948 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Mechanicville. She predeceased him on Feb. 1, 1998. Mr. Bolton was a communicant of the Chapel of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Pilot Knob Association. He was a lifetime member of the Mechanicville Golf Club. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Frances BOLTON of Phoenix, and one son, Michael W. BOLTON of Belchertown, MA. The funeral was held from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Lake George. BORNT, Simeon Hayner. - Simeon Hayner BORNT, who celebrated his 91st birthday on March 24 (1977), died suddenly on July 4 at his home on Log Woods Road, Raymertown, of a heart attack. Although he had been ill since December, death was not expected. He had been alert up until he died. Simeon owned and operated a dairy farm since he was 12 years old. Up until 16 years ago, he did various chores on the farm, when a major heart attack slowed him down. He died in the same room in which he was born. Simeon operated the farm in partnership with his sons, Pittstown Town Supervisor S. Hayner BORNT and Raymertown Fire Chief Raymond L. BORNT. Simeon belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Raymertown, Farm Bureau, and was a member of the Yankee Milk Association. He was also treasurer of the Hillside Cemetery Association, the living officer of the society. He was a son of the late Chauncey and Florence HAYNER BORNT. His late wife was Sarah CUSHMAN BORNT. He was the father of the late Chauncey BORNT. Simeon is survived by five sons, Harold, Irving, S. Hayner, Leslie, and Raymond BORNT; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Martha) LANG, Raymertown; 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. His late sisters were Mercie BORNT EDDY and Estella BORNT CAMPBELL. Private funeral services were held July 7 from the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home, Raymertown, with the Rev. Floyd Addison, Jr. and the Rev. John F. Riley of St. George's Church in Pittstown officiating. Burial followed in the Hillside Cemetery, Raymertown. Bearers, all grandsons, were Richard, Larry, Donald, Robert, Ronald, James, David, and Gerald BORNT, and Gene PECKHAM.

The deceased was a farmer and had lived in West Hoosick nearly all his life. He was a widower, and is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Henry Joslin of Berlin [Rensselaer Co NY]; also by three sisters residing in Michigan, Omaha and Florida, and a brother in Michigan. BRENENSTUHL, Flora (HAKES). - Mrs. Fred Brenenstuhl. - Flora Hakes, wife of Fred Brenenstuhl, died at her home at Raymertown, Thursday, five o'clock pm. She contracted the measles while caring for her son which resulted in her decease. The deceased was a native of Berlin and was thirty-seven years of age, and is survived by a husband and one son. The funeral services were held at two o'clock pm, Saturday from the residence, and at eleven o'clock Sunday from the church at Berlin. Interment at Berlin. Mrs. Brenenstuhl was an affectionate wife and mother, and domestic in her tastes and will be missed by a large number of relatives and friends, both at Berlin and Raymertown, while sympathy of the neighbors is extended to the husband and son. He was born in Hoosick Falls in 1888, was graduated from the Hoosick Falls High School and from Williams College in 1909 and the Albany Medical College in 1913. He was a 32nd Mason member of Temple Lodge, F. & A. M.; Temple Chapter, R. A. M.; Dewitt Clinton, R. & S. M., of which he was a life member; Temple Commandery, K. T., and Cyprus Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, the Albany Lodge, B. P. O. E., a charter member of the McGowansville Fire Dept., member of Ouray Tribe, Redmen of America; past president of the New York State Medical Society and the Albany County Medical Society. Survivors include his widow, who was Miss Edith Townsend; a daughter, Mrs Florence Brenenstuhl Jewell of Hartford, Ct.; and a brother, Raymond Brenenstuhl, of Melrose. He was a brother of the late David Brenenstuhl, chairman of the Rensselaer County Board of Supervisors, and member from Petersburg. Mrs. Broscko was retired from Barkley's Manufacturing in Cohoes. BROWN, Gay H. - Gay H. Brown, Former State Judge, Dies. - The funeral of Gay H. Brown, 71, of 2004 15th St., former Supreme Cout Justice and past grand master of the Masons in the state, will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. from the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. Rev. George Borthwick will officiate. Mr. Brown died suddenly at 5 p.m. yesterday at his residence. He also was former chief counsel to the State Public Service Commission. He served as Supreme Court Justice in the Fifth Judicial District (Utica). In 1950 he was prominently mentioned as candidate for lieutenant governor on the Democrat ticket. Mr. Brown, who had resided in Troy since 1949, succumbed while sitting in a living-room chair, following a walk to the corner mail box. Dr. Joseph E. Pahl was called and pronounced him dead of a heart attack. Mr. Brown had a distinguished career. A former Utica attorney he was appointed Supreme Court justice in 1929 by the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt when the latter was governor. He served for one year until his resignation. His seat was in Utica. From 1936 to 1943, he was chief counsel to the Public Service Commission with head-quarters in New York City. After Thomas E. Dewey was elected governor, Mr. Brown set up law practice in Manhattan under the firm name of Brown, Ryan and Kenny. His partners were John F. Ryan and George H. Kenny. Mr. Brown was born March 30, 1889 in Minneapolis, Minn. He moved to Buffalo at an early age and attended public school and high school there. He was graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1911 and with a bachelor of laws degree from the Cornell University Law School in 1912. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, national collegiate honor society, Mr. Brown was active in debating, was class orator in 1911 and was president of the Law School Assn. After practicing law for a short time in Buffalo, he went to Utica, where he was associated with the firm of Kernan & Kernan. He then formed his own legal firm of Brown, Hubbard, Felt & Fuller, of which he was the trial member. Mr. Brown was a 33rd Degree Mason and an honorary member of all Masonic bodies in Troy and Utica and through his active participation in Masonic activities he rose to the post of grand master of the Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York from 1946 to 1948. His Masonic memberships included Liberty Lodge, F&AM, of Utica; Oneida Chapter, RAM, of Utica; Rotica Council, R&SM, of Rome; Utica Commandery, Knights Templar; Ziyara Temple, AAONMS; International Supreme Council of the Order of De Molay; Royal Order of Jester; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Utica; Kaa Rheu Vahn Grotto, MOVPER, of Albany; the Cabiri, International Past Potentates Assn. He also organized the Right Worshipful Assn. of the Rensselaer-Schenectady District. In 1958 Mr. Brown was appointed a member of the board of trustees of Hudson Valley Community College by former Gov. Active in church affairs, Mr. Brown was one of the organizers of the United Churchmen of the Troy Area and was chairman of the group's religious census at one time. He was a member of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church and its board, and he was an active lay leader at the church. In 1952 he was cited for distinguished lay leadership by the National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A. Mr. Brown was also active in civic affairs in Troy. He was a member and past president of the Troy YMCA and a member of the Troy Kiwanis Club. He participated in the former Community Chest and in Uncle Sam Council, Boy Scouts of America. In Utica he was past president of the YMCA, past president of the Kiwanis Club, and an active member of the Community Chest and Child Welfare Board. While there he was prominent in the affairs of the Democratic Party. Mr. Brown had served for many years as a nationally-known lecturer associated with Program Associates of Utica, and he spoke before many groups throughout the United States. Surviving are his wife, the former Marcia Peabody AIRD, a native of Troy; a son, Wendell Reese BROWN of Utica; a daughter Mrs. H. Born in Pittsfield, Mass. she was the only daughter of the late Leo W. FITZGERALD and Marie FETTIG and was the widow of Frederick N. BROWN Jr. She was a lifelong resident of Stephentown, where she attended the Garfield Elementary School. She was a graduate of New Lebanon High School [New Lebanon, Columbia County, NY], where she was a standout basketball player. After high school, she attended Berkshire Business College. Mrs. Brown and her husband operated the Stephentown Post Office out of their home on Route 43 for 35 years. They also owned and operated the F. N. Brown Insurance Company. She retired in 1976 and worked in St. Joseph's Church in Stephentown, where she was a communicant. She also attended the Church of the Immaculate Conception Church in New Lebanon and worked with the Stephentown Fire Department Fire Bells. She enjoyed bowling. BROWN, Muriel STEWART (later Mrs. HUNTER). - Muriel STEWART BROWN HUNTER, 99, died Wednesday evening, June 23, 2010 at her home in Covenant Towers. Mrs. Hunter was born September 23, 1910, in Hoosick Falls, [Rensselaer County] NY, eldest daughter of the late Florence CHASE STEWART and Adelbert T. STEWART. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Clayton STEWART; her stepson, Stanley BROWN; and a beloved aunt, Helen STEWART METCALF. Muriel graduated from Hoosick Falls High School in 1928 and from Albany State University (SUNY) with a BS in library science in 1932. Mrs. Hunter married Wales BROWN in 1955 and enjoyed family life with her mother and his two youngest children, Esther BROWN and Stanley BROWN, until his death in 1964. She married Robert S. HUNTER in 1974. During her second marriage, Muriel and Robert enjoyed traveling and visiting Scotland and England during the summers. Mrs. Hunter was a librarian at Cheney Public Library, Hoosick Falls, and Enoch Pratt Library, Baltimore, Maryland. She spent four years (1946-1950) as an Army librarian in Japan, setting up libraries for the American troops. She later was an Army librarian at Camp Chaffee in Arkansas and at Fort Hood in Texas. She spent seventeen years as Chief Librarian at the VA Hospital in Albany, NY. Survivors include her two sisters, Virginia BAUER and her children, Edward "Spook" BAUER of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Beverly MARCHESE of El Paso, TX, and Janet DAY of Meadville, PA, with her four sons, Stewart, Jonathan, Christopher and Stephen; stepdaughters, Esther SOWELL and Jean HUNTER WHITE; stepson, John Hunter; and stepgrandchildren, Susan, Herbie and Dixie. She is also survived by several grandnieces, grandnephews, and one great-grandnephew, Chase. Funeral services will be held 11 a. m. Monday, June 28, 2010, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, with Chaplin Burt Bosworth officiating. Burial will follow at Southeastern Memorial Gardens. She had been previously married. Mrs. Bruce enjoyed making and collecting handicrafts. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Bruce; her mother, Mrs. Thomas (Helen) McAvoy of Troy; a daughter, Cassandra M. Bruce of Watertown; three sons, Kenneth, Jr., of Watertown, Shannon of Menands and Albert T. Miller of Averill Park, NY; and a sister Miss Sandra L. McAvoy of Troy. There are no calling hours. Born July 15, 1925, in Johnsonville [a hamlet in the town of Pittstown, Rensselaer County, NY], she was a daughter of the late Frederick BRUNS and Lucy PEMRICK BRUNS. In addition to her employment outside her home earlier in her career, Florence was deeply devoted to her family, friends and church. She truly loved children, raising three generations and lovingly guiding a fourth, her four beloved great-grandchildren. She was a founding member, strong supporter and communicant of St. Therese's Chapel in Gansevoort. She enjoyed square dancing and was a valued member at several square-dancing organizations in the area for many years and loved her many friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence RUSSELL, in 2007. Survivors include her son, Paul RUSSELL of Saratoga Springs; her daughter, Mary RUSSELL of Glenville; her stepdaughter, Barbara Jean LABRECQUE of Kankakee, IL; two sisters, Regina SPEANBURG of Johnsonville and Theresa PRATT of Easton; two brothers, Leo BRUNS of Latham and Fred BRUNS of Florida; one grandchild, Holly Marie ROBINSON; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Lanelle, Jessie and Iris BROWN; and several nieces and nephews. Florence deeply cared about others and strongly supported numerous charities throughout her life. BRUST, Norma Irene (Mrs. George M. ZYCK) - BINGHAMTON, [Broome County] NY - On February 9, 2008, Norma Irene ZYCK, 89, left this earth to journey through the Gates of Heaven. She was born Norma Irene BRUST, November 10, 1918, fourth of 11 children born to the late Alta BORNT and Waldo BRUST in Pittstown, [Rensselaer County] NY. She was married to George M. ZYCK ("Matt") for 39 wonderful years until his passing in November 1982. She is survived by two daughters, Judith Carol DENSON and her husband "Denny" of Virginia Beach, VA, and Joanne Marie DELANOY and her husband Keith of Binghamton; three grandsons, Donald DENSON, Jr. and his wife Carrie of Virginia Beach, Kevin DENSON of Navarre, FL, and Jason DELANOY and his girlfriend Gretchen of Binghamton. Norma, fondly known as "G. G.", is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Whitney Taylor, Colleen Elizabeth, Donald Lee III, Samantha Mae, and Keagan James, and soon to be a sixth, Breanna Leigh; her sisters, Iva BONESTEEL of Troy, Elva GOLINSKI of Hoosick Falls, and Beryl KROUGH of Troy; her brothers, David BRUST of Cabool, MO, and Kenneth BRUST of Troy; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Rose DICKINSON, Edna CUSHMAN, and Marjorie WAIT, and by her brothers Elton BRUST and Ronald BRUST. Although they came from different backgrounds, a country farm girl and a city slicker, Norma and Matt married in 1943 and were devoted to each other. Norma's favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her grandsons and her great-grandchildren. She lived a full, happy and long life and was a loving sister, mother and wife. She was a lifetime member of the Polish Community Center and Auxiliary of Albany; a member of the Polish-American Citizens' Club, the Colonie Elks Auxiliary #2192, and the St. Francis de Sales Senior Citizen Center; a former member of the Church of St. Casimir's; an avid bingo player; and a worker at the Polish Community Center. She was a longtime member, along with Matt and many of her friends, of the West End Rug Mixed Bowling League. Funeral services will be held in the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, 8 Dudley Heights, (Northern Blvd.) Albany, Thursday morning at 9:45 and 10:30 o'clock at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 609 Central Avenue, Albany. BUTTON, Louise R. ROCKWELL - Louise R. (ROCKWELL) BUTTON, 96, of Kendallville [Noble County, IN], died Friday, March 27, 2009 in Shepherd of the Hill, Kendallville. Mrs. Button attended Pelham Memorial High School in New York. She was a graduate of Syracuse University in 1933 and of Columbia University. She was an English teacher in Schaghticoke, [Rensselaer County] New York. Upon moving to Kendallville in 1958, she was an English teacher for the East Noble School Corporation at the Avilla Middle School for 14 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kendallville, where she served as an elder, deacon and president of the women's association. She was also a member of the Calvin Circle, Alpha Phi sorority at Syracuse University, Eta Phi Epsilon, the Noble County Retired Teachers' Association, the Kendallville Day Care Board and local bridge clubs. She was born September 20, 1912, in Meriden, Connecticut, to Charles F. ROCKWELL and Ada COE. On August 28, 1939, in New Rochelle, [Westchester County] New York, she married Irving C. BUTTON. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1996. Surviving are a son, David R. BUTTON of Kendallville; a niece, Sally WADE of Santa Monica, California; caregivers Lois Strunk, Wanda Amburgey, Robin Wylie, and Jackie Rowlison; and special friends of the family Robert and Dorothy Sorensen of Kendallville. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William F. COE [sic - William F. ROCKWELL] and Thomas B. COE [sic - Thomas B. ROCKWELL]. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at 2 p. m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Rev. Stan Kessler officiating.
