Chester Grant WAGER, attorney at law, Troy, Rensselaer County, New York, Assistant District Attorney of Rensselaer County, is a native of Brunswick, Rensselaer County, New York, born 23 November 1864, son of John WAGER and Theodosia LITTLEFIELD, his wife. Six generations ago, nearly two centuries, the ancestor of the Wager family emigrated from Holland to America and took up his abode on the site of the present city of Troy, where he was a farmer.

Mr. Wager received a good general education in the public schools of Brunswick and in Troy Academy, from the latter of which he graduated in 1883. From that time until November of the following year, he was engaged in mercantile pursuits, after which he began the study of law in the office of G. G. Shrauder of Troy; and having laid the foundation of his legal education, he entered Albany Law School, from which he graduated in 1887 with the coveted degree of LL. B. For a few months afterward, he was in the office of J. A. Chipperly, and in September, he was admitted to practice in accordance with the requirements of the University of the State of New York.

He began his active professional career in the capacity of managing clerk for Mr. Chipperly. Two years later, he became law partner with H. Judd Ward of Troy, a relation which was maintained until May 1895 and then was dissolved, after which Mr. Wager engaged in practice for himself. In November 1902, Mr. Wager was appointed Assistant District Attorney of Rensselaer county, in which capacity he still serves. He is a member of the Rensselaer County Bar Association, is a Mason, and politically is a Republican.
