Locating Enumeration Districts in the 1930 Federal Census
Steve Morse has created an excellent and easy to use One-Step Search Engine entitled "Obtaining EDs for the 1930 Census in One Step (Large Cities)." This very helpful site can be seen at http://www.stevemorse.org/census/
The National Archives (NARA) has also made available a 1930 census microfilm Locator at their web site at: http://1930census.archives.gov/. According to the NARA publication 1930 Federal Poluplation Census: Catalog of National Archives Microfilm, the locator is described as follows:
"You can use this Locator to find the roll of film you need for a specific county, township, or enumeration district. You can also search by place or institution.
The Locator also guides you to sepcific Soundex microfilm rolls for the 12 Southern Soundexed states.
The Locator is not a family or name index, and it is not a digital version of the census."1940 Federal Census
In April 2013, the 1940 Federal Census became available for free on Ancestry.com. In about five years, they will place it under their subscription services only section. However, at that time, the 1940 Federal Census will be available to be viewed for free on the National Archives web site.
