2.  DAVID2 PECKHAM (BENJAMIN1) was born September 09, 1800 in Stonington, Connecticut2, and died July 15, 1876 in Town of Hannibal, Oswego Co., NY3,4.  He married MARY POTTER Abt. 1822.  She was born 17974, and died December 27, 1858.

Notes for DAVID PECKHAM:
David was the eleventh child of fifteen children, and when he was 21 years old, he came to Hannibal through Long Island Sound, up the Hudson River, and via packet on the then unfinished Erie Canal as far Oneida.  There the boat trip ended and he was forced to travel overland on foot for the rest of his journey.
 He bought land in the northwestern part of the Town of Hannibal in what became known as Wiltseville and immediately commenced clearing the ground.  The great trees were felled as close to each other as possible so that when the summer sun had dried them the burning would be more complete.  During that year of 1821, he cleared about two acres of land upon which he built his home, a log cabin.  When winter set in, he returned to Stonington and married Mary Potter.
 The following spring, he and his young bride occupied the log cabin, keeping house in what was practically a wilderness.  There they encountered the privations that plaqued the early pioneers.  Most of the furniture in the cabin was made by David using the few tools with which he had to work, and although rough and crude, it was strong and substantial.
 More settlers came later, and in time, they built rough roads and bridges.  A log schoolhouse built near David's home provided educational opportunities.  This soon proved too small and a larger one was built of sawn lumber.
   Also at this time, The early settlers were holding religious meetings in the Town of Hannibal which belonged to what was known as the Granby Circuit.  David, who had a good common school education and some instruction in vocal music, was keenly interested in the religious services and became involved.    In 1835, he organized a class in religious instruction which met in a cabin near his home.  Four years later, he was instrumental in forming the Methodist Church in Hannibal which was incorporated on March 13, 1839, in the Oswego County Clerk's Office.
 In addition to charter members, there were about an equal number that joined who had not been members of this religious group.  The little society met in a schoolhouse located slightly west of the present Methodist Parsonage.  Membership steadily increased under the pastorship of Rev. John Whitcomb (1838-1840) and Benjamin F. Brown (1840-1842).
 Soon the group purchased a lot from Benjamin Phelps for the purpose of erecting a house of worship.  David was directly involved in erecting a church edifice on the site in 1841. 
 Two decades later, the small church had grown overcrowded and David saw another building effort.  In 1864, the present church was constructed in front of the previous building which was afterwards used for prayer and class meetings.

 William served in the Civil War with Co. C, 184th N.Y. Vo. Inf. Regt., enlisting on August 22, 1864, and mustered in as Private on September 16, 1864.  He was promoted to First Sergeant on the same date.  He was discharged with the regiment at the end of the war.

Notes for ISAAC H. PECKHAM:
 Isaac enlisted as a Private in Co. F, 110th NY Vol. Inf. Regiment and was mustered into service in the Civil War on August 25, 1862, as First Lieutenant.  He was promoted to Captain in March 1863, and was breveted Major for meritorious service.  He resigned on account of disability.  At the time he was mustered into United States service there were 101 men in his company, and in one year's time, there were but eleven men fit for duty out of the original 101.
 He held the office of Overseer of the Poor fourteen years and was Commissioner of Highways five years.  He was a farmer by profession.

Notes for OTIS ALLEN KIPP:
 During the Civil War, Otis served in Co. C, 184th N.Y. Vol. Inf. Regt., enlisting on August 26, 1864, and mustered in as Private on September 16, 1864.  He was captured briefly and was discharged with the regiment.
 He was a farmer after the war and was married three times, the first two wives having died.  He died at his home on Cayuga Street in the Village of Hannibal.  Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church (now the Community Church) in Hannibal.
