Jacob Schermerhorn, Sr., lived in Homer, N.Y., and some time after 1809 moved to Oswego County, N.Y.   In 1821, he was living in Richland, Oswego Co.  His sons Jacob and Isaac were fur dealers and merchants at Daysville, N.Y.  Henry was a farmer and Abraham a manufacturer of medicines.  In 1824 Jacob Schermerhorn, Sr., was the proprietor of a hotel on the road between Port Ontario and Oswego. 
Many Schermerhorns are buried in a cemetery on the road from Arthur to Port Ontario.

 Alfred H., b. June 20, 1848; d. Aug. 5, 1903; m. Nov. 15, 1871, Elizabeth J. Ethridge.

  Mina, b. July 19, 1873; m. 1st, Leslie Austin, who d. Jan. 22, 1902; m. 2nd Olen G. Snyder
  Herman Henry, b. Nov. 16, 1878.

Henry Schermerhorn was a farmer.  He removed to Wisconsin early in life but returned to Oswego Co., N.Y., and in 1856 located in Boylston.  His son Alfred H. was the owner of several large farms, two of them in Sandy Creek, Oswego Co., N.Y.  He served the town of Boylston at different times as assessor and also commissioner of excise.  Herman H., son of Alfred, was graduated from Yale University in 1904, with degree of A.B.
