HARTH - Niagara Falls

I am doing genealogy research and was wondering how I can find some information in one of the Niagara Co. newspapers. I am trying to find information on a Phillip Harth who was the murder victim in Niagara Co., NY in about 1858. He was married to my 3rd great grandmother 1st and then she married my 3rd great grandfather Johann Adam Mathes. I am also trying to find out when and where they were married in NY.

The paper I am interested in having someone look would be: Niagara Falls gazette (Niagara Falls, N.Y. : Weekly)

Published: 1854-1896

HARVEY

I have just learned that there are a number of Harvey's liisted in the 1860 Federal Census for Niagara Co. I have listed them below along with the page numbers and towns. If anyone can give me any information on any of them I would be most grateful.

In return I have access to the Federal Censuses for the state of Pa. and would be willing to trade lookup time with anyone that may be able to help. As an alternative I am willing to pay any reasonable fees for any help.

I am most interested in the Silas Harvey listed on pg. 549 Royalton.

According to his War of 1812 papers obtained from the National Archives, my 3rd ggrandfather Silas Harvey b. 1795 Ma. was known to be in Niagara Co. in Oct. 1813 when he was inducted into the NY. State Militia. "He was mustered at Black Rock and after a few days marched north to Fort Niagara where he volunteered to cross over and occupy Fort George. He was discharged at Fort Niagara in Dec. 1813 a few days before the British burned Buffalo".

He is next found in Crawford Co. Pa. in 1820 with wife Rachel Paden and two sons both under age 5. He migrated to Ashtabula co. Oh. about 1829.

In 1855 Silas and Rachel divorced and both returned, separtely to Crawford Co. Pa.

Here we lose track of Silas except for a brief notation in the Crawford County records of a refusal to serve as executor of his father's estate by his youngest son Benjamin Franklin Harvey in April 1862.

There is a persistant family tradition that Silas "is buried up by Lake Erie".

I think there is a possibillity that we may have found him up here in Royalton in 1860.

SCHMIDT

I have several ancesters buried in Niagara County. For the SCHMIDT and many related surname lines, I have people buried at Northridge Cemetary and St Peter's Lutheran Cemetary in Cambria, NY.

QUESTION: Does anyone know if the old german parish registers still exist for St Peter's? If so, I could check the baptism, marriage, death records they would contain for my SCHMIDT family from the 1870s onward. The church is still in existance. Anyone know? Or have a contact? Thanks, Debbie - Dec. 1998

TAYLOR

How do I contact someone who can do a Niagra County look-up for Samuel and or Susan TAYLOR, 1855 census? Or the 1850 census if not found in the 55. Samuel and Susan would be in an approximate age range of 22 to 48 years. By l855 they had two sons Willard and Alphy, about 4 years and 1 year of age. Fees, of course, expected and cheerfully remitted. Many Thanks,
Bill Taylor
