1860 Residents, Land owners, and Business Owners:
Names Transcribed from the 1860 Niagara County Maps
In 1996, the Niagara County Genealogical Society began reprinting a
rare wall map (used for many years in the schools) of the county and
its villages and hamlets. The reprints
include twelve smaller maps, of individual villages, and one large
county map.
All the maps show many names of land owners and residents; some
areas provide two different sets of names, one from the small map and
one from the large.
Volunteer Gail Allore has
begun transcribing the names from these maps. The following villages
and hamlets have been completed:
- CHARLOTTE, in the town of Newfane
- GASPORT, in the town of Royalton
- JOHNSONS CREEK in the
town of Hartland
- LEWISTON in the town of Lewiston
- LOCKPORT, in the town of Lockport
- MARTINSVILLE, town of Wheatfield
- MIDDLEPORT, situated so the
northern half was in the town of Hartland, the southern half in the
town of Royalton
- NEW BERGHOLTZ, town of Wheatfield
- NIAGARA FALLS, in the town
of Niagara
- NORTH TONAWANDA, town of
Wheatfield
- OLCOTT, in the town of Newfane
- ORANGEPORT, in the town of Royalton
- PEKIN, a crossroad at the town lines
of Lewiston and Cambria
- PENDLETON, in the town of Pendleton
- RANSOMVILLE, in the town of Porter
- RAPIDS, in the town of Lockport
- REYNALES BASEN, in the town
of Royalton
- ROYALTON CENTRE, in the town
of Royalton
- SOMERSET CORNERS in
Niagara County
- WILSON, town of Wilson
- YOUNGSTOWN, in the town of Porter
