He went to school at Groton academy, succeeded to the mercantile business of his father when 18 years of age and followed it until the year 1865 when he organized the first national bank of Groton, holding the position of cashier until 1890, when he was elected president, which position he now holds. He is also largely interested in and president of the Groton carriage company, Crandall machine company, secretary and treaurer of the Dwight farm and land company of Dwight, North Dakota, director in the Groton bridge and manufacturing company, etc. He has always resided at Groton, N.Y.
