   General Notes:

Graduated at Amherst College, 1855; He studied theology with Rev. Sereno
D. Clark and with Rev. Edward N. Kirk, D.D; was pastor of Springfield Street
church, Boston, 1858; in Europe 1862-3; pastor of 4-1/2 St. Presbyterian
church, Washington, D.C. 1865. In 1866 he relinquished his profession on
account on ill health and has since been engaged in importing objects of art
from Japan, China and Europe, with headquarters at 22 Beacon St., Boston. In
1883 he was chosen Commissioner in Chief of the Boston Foreign Exhibition and
secured the leading exhibits from Russia, turkey, Persia, Japan and Korea.
