(1) HENRY A. BURTIS-whose death occurred on Tuesday, was born at Christian Hook in 1805. Until within a few years he was engaged in the boot and shoe business, latterly at his home on Greenwich street, which structure he had erected in 1832 and has since occupied. Mr. Burtis was familiarly knowns as Col. Burtis, through whom the title originated is not known. He was often called Captain, but this was from the association with the bay, and his delight in taking charge or sailing parties. He only relinquished this privilege about six years ago-then 80 years of age. Mr. Burtis was quite deaf, which affliction he contended partly resulted from his constant use of the clarinet, which instrument he used while in the Band. Deceased was a regular attendant at the M.E. Church service, while health permitted, uniting with that denomination during Rev. Benjamin Pillsbury's ministry, in 1857, who conducted one of the largest revivals known here. He has one sister living of a family of ten children-Mrs. Sarah Weeks, who is in her 81st year. A wife survives him. The funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, from his late residence. The interment will be in Greenfield Cemetery.

(2) MICHAEL J. HICKEY, who died at Far Rockaway on Monday, was engaged in the undertaking and livery stable business. His death is the first occurring in Hempstead Counsel, Royal Arcanum, since it was instituted in 1884. His beneficiary receives $3,000 from the order. He had been a member but a short time.

(3) GARRET VAN COTT, who died at his home south of the village, on Saturday last, had been indisposed for some months past with Bright's disease, which disease terminated in dropsy. His life had been spent in farming. Mass was said in the Chruch of Our Lady of Loretto on Monday and the body buried at Westbury.

(4) CHARLES C. WALTERS, a former resident of our village, died at Bridgeport, Conn., last Thursday. Deceased had been ill with la grippe for two or three weeks. He was a member of Hempstead Lodge, No. 141, I.O.O.F., and his funeral which occurred on Sunday, was attended by members of Robert H. Harris Lodge, No. 99, who conducted the service, burying his remains in their own plot. A wife survives deceased.
