HAMILTON - Vans A. Dove, 96, of Eaton Street, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999,
at his home.
He was born June 3, 1905, in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Vans A. and Mary
Campbell Dove. He came to the United States as an infant, living in Fulton
and Syracuse prior to moving to Hamilton in 1935.
Mr. Dove married the former Eleanor Keach on Oct. 24, 1925, in Syracuse. Mrs.
Dove died March 22, 1989.
Mr. Dove was the owner and operator of the Purity Laundry in Hamilton from
1946 until his retirement in 1969. Mr. Dove was an active member of the First
Baptist Church of Hamilton. He was a founder and active member of the
Hamilton Booster Club, where he was a past President and "Booster of the
Year" in 1972. He was a member and Vice President of the Woodlawn Cemetery
Association, Hamilton, and a 75-year member of the F & AM Lodge No. 120 of
Hamilton. Mr. Dove was a member of the MOKANNA Grotto No. I of Hamilton,
where he had served as Monarch in 1941, and as its Secretary since 1970.
He was on the Memorial Properties Committee and was appointed Director of the
Founders Memorial Properties by the Supreme Council Brothers of North
America. Mr. Dove was also an avid bowler and golfer.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Louis (Betty) Lamb of Hamilton; one sister,
Margaret Evans of Syracuse; four grandchildren; and five great-grand-chldren.
