Sarah M. Van Eps
Sarah M. Van Eps
(September 23, 1828 - May 11, 1920)

The Orleans Republican (Albion, NY)
May 26, 1920

Sarah M. Van Eps was born in Sullivan, Madison Co., N.Y., September 23,
1828, and died May 11, 1920, after an illness of four weeks. When eighteen
years of age she came with her parents to the farm in Carlton, where she has
since resided. She was the eldest of five children, and the last one left in
the old homestead where she and her youngest brother Alston continued to live
after the passing of the grandparents, parents, brothers and a sister many
years ago. Alston's death occurred last November, leaving her and a niece,
Helen Van Eps, the last of the family. Miss Van Eps was for many years one
of our most successful school teachers, resigning because of the ill health
of her mother, since which time many of her happiest hours have been spent
among her books and flowers. She loved children, always sharing with them
and others her beautiful flowers. That her friends and neighbors have not
forgotten was shown by the wealth of flowers that were their last offering to
Aunt Sarah, as she was lovingly known. In religious belief she was a
Universalist having been a firm believer in that faith since her youth. The
funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. P. Wood, pastor of the Pullman
Memorial church of Albion. She was laid to rest in the family plot at Mt.
Albion.
