Robert F. Smith
Robert F. Smith, 86, of 51 East Fifth St., died Wednesday afternoon, July
7, in the Extended Care Facility of the Oneida Healthcare Center, where he
had been a resident for the past four weeks.
He was born on Feb. 26, 1913 in Rome, the son of Edward E. and Mary E.
Griffin Smith. He was a longtime resident of the area.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of the former St. Aloysius Academy in Rome, the
class of 1931. He married Lucy M. Rice in St. Patrick's Church, Oneida on
June 19, 1948.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Smith was employed with Revere Copper and
Brass, Inc., in Rome, as a manager of purchasing and inventory. He was a
member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church and a veteran of World War II,
serving with the United States Army, in the European Theatre, having been
taken as a prisoner of war.
Surviving are his wife; three sons and two daughters-in-law Robert F. Smith
of Louisville, Ky., Michael J.and Diane Smith of Littleton, Colo. and David
J. and Peggy Smith of Fulton; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Douglas
Storm of Glastonbury, Conn.; one sister, Elizabeth McGuinnes of Rome; eight
grandchildren, Sean Smith, Kevin Smith, Amy Smith, Jessica Harrison,
Stephanie Simons, Brandon Smith, Heather Strom and Carrie Strom; and several
nieces and nephews.
