  Peter A. Hitchings Jr. 
 
  Peter A. Hitchings Jr., 60, Route 46, died Thursday evening in the 
emergency room of Oneida Healthcare Center, shortly after his admission. 
  Born in Higginsville, on June 5, 1939, he was the 
son of Peter A. and Winifred Wesseldine Hitchings Sr. A lifelong resident of
the area, Mr.Hitchings was educated in Higginsville and Verona schools. 
  He married Marion Hull in Verona on April 20, 1974. 
  Prior to his retirement, due to illness, Mr. Hitchings was employed with 
Richard Havener Logging and Trucking and has previously been employed with 
the Town of Verona. He was a life member of the New London Volunteer Fire  
Department and was of the Presbyterian faith. 
  Surviving besides his wife, Marion, is one step-daughter and her husband, 
Lila and Rick Dixon of Oneida; two brothers, Claude H. Hitchings of 
Higginsville and James H. Hitchings of Durhamville; five sisters, Beatrice H.
Albert of Higginsville, Bertha L. Wright of Sherrill, Winnie Canarelli of 
Sauquoit, Florence E. Roberts of Vernon and Isabel H. Uhlig of Canastota; 
two step-grandsons, Harry Hawver, Jr and Ronald Hawver; and several nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was precedeased by three sisters, 
Betsy Hitchings in 1953, Dorothy A. Wakefield in February of 1995 and Mary I.
Fargo on August 18, 1999.
