  Leonard J. Towsley, 62, of the Betsy Ross Nursing Home and Rehabilitation 
Center, formerly of Main Street, Peterboro, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at the
Rome Hospital. 
  He was born Aug. 11, 1937, in the Town of Lebanon, the son of Harry A. and 
Sally Mead Towsley. 
  He was a 1954 graduate of Hamilton Central School and served with the U.S. 
Marine Corps durning the Korean Conflict. 
  On Dec. 7, 1957, Leonard married the former Mary Moran in Camp Lejeune, 
N.C. Mrs. Towsley predeceased him on Nov. 15, 1997. 
  Mr. Towsly was a welder at Industrial Fabricating in Syracuse, until his 
retirement. He was an active volunteer at the Betsy Ross Home during his 
residency there. 
  Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-laws, Mary and Daniel Maniacek of 
Oneida and Gertrude "Trudy" and Eric Hoffmeister of Verona; three sons and 
one daughter-in-law, Thomas Towsley of Wake Forest, N.C., Leo and Pati 
Towsley of Edgewater, Fla. and Timothy Towsley of Eaton; two sisters and 
brothers-in-law, Alice and Andre Alford of Madison and Janet and Fred Snell 
of Olmond Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and 
several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, 
Michelle Towsley on April 26, 1993, and a sister, Luluia Buyea.
