  Kenneth C. Dexter, 70, of 212 Woodland Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000,
at his winter home in Deland, Fla., following a sudden illness. 
  He was born on July 23, 1929, in Oneida, the son of Kenneth L. and Ruth 
Haigh Dexter. 
  Ken had spent his early years in Wampsville, graduating from Oneida High 
School. He had lived in Sylvan Beach for the past twenty years, spending 
winters in Deland for the past fourteen years. 
  He had worked for the Smith Corona Co. in Cortland for 17 years. He later 
worked for Oneida Ltd. in Sherrill and had owned and operated a restaurant 
in Verona. 
  Ken was a Korean War veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. 
  He had been a member of Sylvan Beach American Legion Post No. 1153, the 
Disabled American Veterans Post No. 92 in Florida and the Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post No. 2380 in Deland. 
  Ken had been a member of the former Wampsville Presbyterian Church. 
  He had been married to the former Jeanne Preston. 
  Surviving is his long-time companion, Mernie "Tiny" Baker; three sons and 
two daughters-in-law, Steven and Shelly Dexter of Ladson, S.C., Mark and 
Susan Dexter of Hartford and Jeffrey Dexter of Groton; three grandchildren, 
Aaron Dexter, Jeffrey Dexter and Scott Dexter.
