  Jack R. Davis, 74, 9386 Lewis Point Road, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in 
the Oneida Healthcare Center, where he had been a medical patient for the 
past nine days. 
  He was born on Nov. 10, 1924, in Rome, the son of Frank and Gladys Caten 
Davis. 
  He was a lifelong resident of Central New York area. Mr.Davis was educated 
in the Rome Schools. 
  He married Shirley Marshall on June 21, 1947, in the First United Methodist
Church,Oneida. 
  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Davis was employed with the Acme Markets, 
Inc., formerly located in Syracuse. 
  Mr Davis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneida. He 
was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a former member of the 
Syracuse Clowns, and was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, 
Baldwinsville Lodge No.644. 
  A veteran of World War II, Mr.Davis served with the United States Army, in 
the medical corps, in the European Theatre. 
  Surviving are his wife; one son, Edgar C. Davis of Canastota; four 
daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Layne L. Scott Miller, Elayne and Jerry 
Dowing, and Jacqueline R.and Michael Loomis, all of Oneida, and Tami L. Davis
and Martin Betelak of Milford, N.H.; one brother, Edger Davis of Munnsville;
one half-brother, Paul Clark of Sylvan Beach;  one half-sister, Noreen 
Naymick of Westmoreland; 11 grandchildren, Zachary Davis, Laura and Matthew
Miller, Andy, Peter and Shannon Dowling, Luke, Jake and Allison Betelek and 
Wyatt and Garrett Loomis; and several nieces and nephews.
