Hudson Post (Hudson, Lenawee Co., Michigan)

James Madison Scarritt died October 27, 1901, aged 67.  Born in Smyrna, Chenango County, NY, on September
1, 1834.  His father was a pioneer there. Married at Sherburne, NY, July 31, 1854 to Clarissa Almdea  
Tackaberry, who survives him. 
 
To them were born two daughters, Mrs. Clara A. Palmer of Rochester, MI, and Mrs. Mattie M. Steuerwald, 
of this city. 
 
Also survived by two brothers and one sister.  Mr. Scarritt came to Hudson in 1872 and purchased the 
Hudson Post.  Later formed a partnership and under the firm name of Scarritt & Steuerward it has been 
continued to this time.
