J. Joseph Deitz
(1833 - November 6, 1898)

November 12 1898 

   J. Joseph Deitz, a well known farmer resident of this section, died at his
home about two miles north of Canastota, on the Main Street Road, Sunday 
morning of pneumonia.  He was 65 years of age.  Funeral services were held at 
the house at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. F. C. Suits of Whitelaw officiating. 
Burial was made at Lenox Rural cemetery. 
    Besides his wife and one brother, Peter Deitz of this place, the deceased 
is survived by two sons and seven daughters as follows: Peter Deitz, Edgar 
Deitz, Mrs. Albert Perott, Mrs. Clinton Cox and Mrs. Benjamin Taber of this 
village;  Mrs. William Wallace of Union Corners;  Mrs. Zelotus Cole, of 
Canasseraga;  Mrs. Robinson of Indiana. 
    At a meeting Monday evening the Whitelaw association, Patrons of 
Industry, adopted resolutions of condolence on the death of Mr. Deitz.
