 VERNON - John A. Doane, 78, of Route 5, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at the 
Oneida Healthcare Center. He was born Jan. 28, 1922, in Orwell, the son of 
Artimus and Emily Ford Doane. He grew up in Orwell and had attended local 
schools. 
 On May 9,1944, he married the former Lillian Adams in Rome. John worked for 
various area wire mills and had retired from the Owl Wire Co., after 15 
years. He and his family had also lived in the Vienna area for nearly 20 
years, later moving to Vernon Center, Oneida and Vernon. 
 He was a past member of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department and greatly 
enjoyed hunting and fishing. 
 Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Faith Doane and Linda and Carl 
Collins, all of Vernon; seven sons, Charles and Ethel Adams, John "Butch" and
Brenda and Christopher and Portia Doane, all of Vernon, David and Sue of 
Wesdale, Clifford and Margaret of Canastota, Russell and Janice and Wayne and
Jean Marie, all of Sylvan Beach; two sisters, Mary and Walt Benjamin of Sodus
and Edith and Jack Burgey of Wesdale; one brother, Artimus and Rose Doane of 
Camden; 19 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and several nieces and 
nephews. He was predeceased by a sister and brother in law, Ida and Floyd 
Miller, and a grandson, Clifford in 1973.
