MORRISVILLE Evelyn V. Vaughan, 75, of West Main Street, died Sunday, July
4, 1999 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton, following a brief illness.
She was born May 29, 1924 in Montclair, N.J., the daughter of John A. and
Katherine Virginia Dunn Sautter. She was a graduate of Monticello High School
in 1941 and Cortland State Teachers College in 1945 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Physical Education.
She married John A. Vaughan on July 8, 1950 in Morrisville. Mr. Vaughan died
on Nov. 15, 1989.
Mrs. Vaughan started teaching at Morrisville-Eaton Central School in 1945,
where she became a very successful basketball, volleyball, field hockey and
softball coach, until her retirement in 1980.
She was an avid golfer who belonged to the Barker Brook Golf Course and
played on the Tuesday Ladies League. Mrs. Vaughan was also an avid New York
Yankees fan. She was the former owner of Sautter's Diner in Morrisville,
which has been operated by her family since 1949. Mrs. Vaughan was a founding
member and the treasurer of the Morrisville Sports Boosters at its inception
in 1981. She was honored by the Morrisville Rotary Club in 1984 with the
Roses for the Living award.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, John and Anna Marie Vaughan of
Morrisville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Vaughan and Susan and
Carl Chapin, all of Morrisville; one sister, Dorothy Lang of Morrisville; six
grandchildren, Eric Clark of Colorado, Kathryn, Michael and Kristin Chapin,
all of Morrisville; A.J. and Jeremy Kozak of Utica; and several nieces and
nephews. (See Death Notice.)
