Ema V. Stokes 
 
  Ema V. Stokes, 95, of RD2, Whitelaw Road, died Saturday, August 21, 1999, 
at the Oneida Healthcare Center Extended Care Facility following a lengthy 
illness. 
  She was born November 3, 1903, in Clockville, the daughter of Charles and 
Addie Mason Schmidtka. 
  Mrs. Stokes had lived in Whitlaw most of her life. 
  She married Robert Stokes on August 19, 1924, in Whitlaw. Mr. Stokes died 
Sept.8,1976. 
  Mrs. Stokes had been a member of the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church. 
  Surviving are five sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Bernice Stokes of 
Canastota, Richard and Esther Stokes of Wampsville, Clifford and Connie 
Stokes of Canastota, Frederick and Lois Stokes of Clinton Corners and Walter 
and Doreen Stokes of Bridgeport; three daughters Evelyn Downs and Marjorie 
Palmer, both of Canastota, and Lucille Merriman of Wampsville; one brother,  
Charles Schmidtka of Chittenango; one sister, Grace Vandever of Houston; 27 
grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren one great-great-grandchild and several 
nieces and nephews.
