  Edwin R. Schneider 
 
  Edwin R. Schneider, 84, 4609 State St., died Saturday afternoon, April 17,
1999, in the Stonehedge Nursing Home, Chittenango, where he had been a 
patient for the past two and one-half years.  
  He was born on Aug. 31, 1914, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Rudolf and 
Caroline Fischer Schneider. A resident of the Oneida area for the past 58 
years, he married Barbara Hansen on Feb. 9, 1946, in Detroit. Mrs. Schneider 
died on Aug. 16, 1978. 
  Mr. Schneider was a graduate of Oswego High School, the State University of
New York, received his master's degree from Cornell University and also 
performed post graduate work at Pennsylvania State University. 
  Prior to his retirement in 1976, Mr. Schneider was an industrial arts 
instructor with the Oneida City School District, with 33, years of service. 
He also served with the U.S. Army as a lieutenant during World War II. 
  Mr. Schneider was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, a charter member 
of the Kanon Vally Country Club, a member of the Mohawk Vally Industrial Arts
Teachers Association, the Oneida Elks Lodge No. 767, Benevolent Protective 
Order of Elks, the New York State Retired Teachers Association and the 
American Association of Retired Persons, Oneida Chapter No. 3328. 
  Surviving are one son, Thomas E. Schneider of Oneida Castle; two daughters 
and one son-in-law, Carol A. Schneider of Oneida and Mary Jane and Marc 
Rubenstein of Syracuse; one brother, Rudolf Schneider of Baldwinsville; three
sisters, Helen Von Holtz and Kathryn Schneider, both of Oswego, and Margaret 
Eron of Camillus; three grandchildren, Amy L. Schneider, Barbara A. 
Rubenstein and Issac J. Rubenstein; and several nieces and nephews.
