  Barbara Noyes Smith died Sunday, July 18, 1999 at the Mansion House. She 
was born November 9, 1906 in the Mansion House Kenwood, the second daughter 
of Pierrepont B. and Corinna Ackley Noyes. 
  Growing up in Kenwood, she attended Sherrill schools until entering The 
Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass. from which she graduated in 1925. After 
two years at the University of Wisconsin, she completed her education at the 
Parsons School of Design in New York City. 
  On December 13, 1930, she married John H. Hatcher of Hickory, N.C. 
Following his death in 1937, she married Robert W. Bolles on August 28, 1938.
Mr Bolles died in 1943 and in 1948 she married Ivan L. Smith. As she said, 
"If you keep on marrying, you're bound to end up with a Smith." Mr. Smith 
died in 1970. 
  Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, John P. L. Hatcher; six grandchildren, 
John M. Hatcher, Jeffrey A. Hatcher, Elizabeth H. Gayner, Joseph N. Hatcher, 
Whitman Bolles and Amanda Bolles and two great-grandchildren.
