  Alex "Wally" B. Segal, 74, of 121 N. Warner St., died Thursday, April 15, 
1999, at the Veteran's Hospital, Syracuse, following a brief illness. 
  He was born April 4, 1925, in New York Mills, the son of Barney and Bertha 
Sroka Szczygiel. He was educated in the New York Mills schools. 
  In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II on the 
U.S.S. Alden. After serving in Europe, he transferred to the Pacific Theater,
where he served until the end of the war. 
  After leaving the service, he worked for the Atlas Plywood Co. of Syracuse,
where he became manager. In 1967, he purchased the Madison Supply Co. of 
Oneida and continued to operate it until his illness. 
  He married the former Florrie Kohlmaier on May 8, 1948, in New York Mills. 
The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1998. 
  Mr. Segal was active in bowling, serving on many leagues as secretary and 
treasurer. He also served as a trustee for the New York State Bowling 
Association. He was honored by the Oneida Assocuiation in 1989 for his 
sportsmanship and dedication to bowling in Oneida. He also was an avid 
golfer, playing in several leagues and was a member of the Cedar Lake Country
Club of Clayville. He was associated with Vernon Downs for many years as a 
distributor of their racing programs. 
  He was a member of St. Patrick's Church of Oneida. 
  Surviving are his wife, at home; one son, Loren P. Segal of Oneida; one 
daughter and son-in-law, Lorelei and John Branigan of Munnsville; two 
sisters, Jane DeMarche of Whitesboro and Mrs. Rudy (Irene) Andrewski of New 
York Mills; four grandchildren, Colleen and Sean Branigan and Stephen and 
Sarah Segal.
