William Wynkoop Family Cemetery

From, Volume #2, Cemetery Records of Old Burying Grounds in the Town of Catskill 1946-1969. Recorded May 2, 1965 by Dorothy and Walter Smith. Retyped by Celeste MacCormack.

This burying ground, the old William Wynkoop Farm, two miles south of Catskill on the Inbocht Road. An old stone house built by William Wynkoop in 1792, enlarged in 1820, the dates are on the house. It tells of this on page 150, Beers History of Greene County. Burying ground several hundred feet south of the house, on a knoll in a pasture and hay field.

Only three stones there now and these are piled on each other. The William Wynkoop one, must be the one who built the house. Can’t say if Mary would be his wife as the age is quite apart. Nelly Wynkoop - William’s youngest daughter married Egbert Schoonmaker and the property passed into their hands. The property is now (1965) owned by Richard Porrazzo.

William Wynkoop died May 24, 1817 aged 73 yrs, 4 days.

Nelly Wynkoop, wife of Egbert Schoonmaker died Dec. 30, 1843 aged 27 yrs, 1 mo, 17 days.

Mary Wynkoop died March 25, 1848 aged 71 yrs, 20 mo, 25 days.
