St. Josephs Chapel

St. Joseph's Chapel
Cemetery

The oldest Catholic Church in Greene County, this cemetery is located to the left of the chapel. The entire site is surrounded by an iron fence and is situated on Rte 23 west of Ashland. Regular services are no longer available in the chapel, however the door is left unlocked for visitors.  Over 100 fieldstones mark the graves of those who could not afford a granite marker. A memorial marker and poem to the Irish Colleens who worked the local cotton mills as weavers provides a certain poignancy to the site. The first three stones are surrounded by their own iron fence.
