State of New York   Greene County   To all to whom then present may come we the undersigned pastor and members of the Church hereafter named a ____ do hereby certify that on the 26th day of September last past  The male members belonging to a church in which divine worship is celebrated according to the rites of the African Methodist Episcopal church of America and not already incorporated met at the place of publick Worship ____ occupied by said church in the Village of Coxsackie in the town of  Coxsackie in said county for the purpose of incorporating thereafter as a religious Society according to the acts of the legislature of the state of New York  and we then and there Elect by a plurality of voices Lot Lee, Abram Clow, John D. Clow, Benjamin Bronk, Wm. Van Allen, as trustees of said church and the said persons did then and there determine by the like plurality of voices  that the said trustees and their successors should forever hereby be called & known by the name or title of the First African Methodist Episcopal Church called the Bethel Church of the town of Coxsackie in said county and that also the Bethel church of said Episcopal shall be the name hereafter of said church  of which the new members and that the Election of the successors of said Trustees shall annually take place after 15 days notice in said church  previous to the time of the annual Election on the first Monday of September next and Each succeeding year hereafter.  In witness hereof we have this day  set our hand & seals  Coxsackie  Oct. 10, 1853

Greene County    ss   On the 10th day of October 1853 personally before me came Levi (?) S Lewis Pastor, Lot Lee, Abram Clow, Benjamin Bronk, Wm. Van Allen trustees Known to me as the persons who were described in and who executed the above certificate & who being only ___ ____ that they are residents of the town of Coxsackie in the said County & State and the above said Certificate or instrument was drawn, Executed by the  ____ according to the express will of said church  & they also acknowledged that they Executed said Certificate for the purpose   therein mentioned
