Cairo April 11^th 1849

Rev. Dear Sir

            By the Rev. Dr. Judd we understand that there was a prospect of obtaining your services as a minister at this place and by the direction of the Society the Trustees are requested to write you on the Subject, inviting you to spend a Sabbath or two with us with a prospect of a more permanent stay ie If you are not engaged and we can raise sufficient salary to be satisfactory to you as we hope to do. We have been able with the help of A. Missionary S. to raise $400, & hope to be able to raise the same again or nearly. We have been destitute of a Pastor thro. the winter & much of the time since Mr. Snyder left. The society is poor & considerable exertion is necessary to sustain a clergyman but one we must have. We wish an answer to this as soon as may be, as we wish to rent the parsonage House if we get no Tenant and wish to sell the Slips in the Church etc. Could you be here next Sabbath all the better, at all events let us know & oblige.
