As you can see, the earlier generations have very little information in the
Bible on them, other than their names.  As for the question on Daisy's
birth, Bessie had her first son 5 months after her marriage, and her wedding
year was never revealed until after her death, so it is possible that her
parents went through the same thing.  But I think the Bible information may
be more correct.

The following is the obituary of Thomas (not known which newspaper it was
from or the date of publication):

"Thomas Gay was born in Greene County, New York, May 8, 1839, and died
Friday June 15, 1928, after a long illness.  He was united in marriage to
Kate Hallenbeck on October 2, 1870.  To this union, 7 children were born,
two preceding him in death, Maria and May.  On March 2, 1895, his wife
passed away.

"After the death of his wife, in December 1897 he moved to Mitchell County
(Iowa) in which has been his home ever since.  He was a kind and loving
husband and father, respected by his friends and neighbors.

"He leaves to mourn his loss five children: Daisy Lampman, Catskill, NY;
Emma Hoverman, Orchard, IA; Hortense Ritter and Bessie Bird, both of Osage,
IA; and son Roy Gay of Riceville, IA."
